Full Mortise Locks
Full Mortise Locks are used on drawers, doors and desks. They are desired for their minimalist appearance -as only the selvedge is seen. The lock body is completely mortised into the wood.
Full Mortise Locks
were used on 19th and 20th century furniture.
When installing, maximum support is achieved by positioning the lock in the center of the wood thickness.
When installing consider:
- How the door swings - if the hinges are on the left side of the door use a right handed lock where the bolt shoots to the right.
- If the lock has only one keyhole it can only be used on a right hand door or a left hand door depending on the position of the keyhole in the lock.
- Thickness of the wood should be adequate to accept the mortise and if relevant insert escutcheon.
- Position of the keyhole in the lock is rarely centered - this effects the placement of the lock mortise.
The Backset is the most important measurement when replacing any lock! |
