Half Mortise Locks
Half Mortise Locks were a popular style, frequently used on 18th & 19th century antique furniture. 2 distinct types of half mortise locks are used on furniture and cabinets: door - drawer locks and lift lid box locks. Once installed the selvedge and lock plate are flush with the interior wood surface , the lock body is mortised into the wood.

Traditionally a strike was not used on drawers and doors - a simple mortise was cut in the wood to accept the lock bolt. However if desired a strike can be used.

A strike with one or more notched clips is required for all lift lid box locks, chest locks and jewelry box locks..
When installing half mortise Locks:
Door locks are handed therefore:
- doors hinged on right - bolt shoots to the left.
- doors hinged on left - bolt shoots to the right
Lock placement may need adjustment as keyhole position in lock can be off center.
