Federal furniture
George Hepplewhite...an English Cabinetmaker, developed a new style of furniture with simple lines and decorative inlay or painted designs. His furniture was popular during the Federal era from 1790-1820. Classic oval and round shaped Hepplewhite drawer pulls and Federal ring pulls became fashionable. These period brasses had geometric or patriotic designs die-stamped into sheet brass.
Thomas Sheraton...a furniture designer, also had tremendous influence on the Federal period. He produced a neo-classic furniture style using his Sheraton knobs and Federal ring pulls rather than typical bail handles. Rectilinear form, inlay, fluting and round tapered legs characterized Sheraton furniture. It has strong elegant features which were popular in America. His signature style was the Sheraton knobs with matching back-plate.
Empire furniture...from 1830 - 1860 was symbolized by a bold ornate style with French influence. This period embraced figured wood veneers, large furniture sizes and the use of pattern glass knobs, large Sheraton brass knobs, and wood drawer knobs.
