Rayo, Rochester, Victorian and student lamps from the mid 1800s to early 1900s commonly used 10" diameter glass oil lamp shades. Many of these old kerosene hurricane lamps have been electrified and restored with glass shades making them suitable for today's lifestyle. The beauty of oil lamp shades is extensive as many were hand painted with organic floral designs. Simplier, more neutral opal white glass shades and dark green student shades were also favorites of this era. Kerosene lamps were designed to use tripods, spiders or 10" shade holders to support oil lamp shades. For a correct vintage appearance use oil lamp shades with glass chimneys.
