Determine how the shade attaches to your table lamp
Glass shades must
be supported by a shade holder. Each style of lamp shade has its
own type of shade holder.
Decide fitter size
if possible measure both the holder and the
bottom diameter of the old shade. If the shade is broken just
measure the holder. If the holder is missing from the lamp
select a shade holder which will fit your lamp and support the
type and size shade you would like.
Glass is blown undersize
meaning glass shades are intentionally
slightly smaller than their holder.
Example:
a 7" glass student shade will have a bottom diameter of
6-5/8”–6-7/8” to fit a 7" holder.
Gas Shades
These useful shades enhance many lamp styles. Shades can be used pointing up, pointing down or at an angle on
chandeliers, wall sconces and table and desk lamps. If used hanging down, holder should have set screws to
secure the shade. Gas shades are often available in two sizes: 2-1/4” fitter and 4” fitter.
Gas Shade Holders
Holder styles: gas shade holder and ball shade holder
