Butler Tray Hinges, Round Ends

Butler Tray hinges are made of thick extruded brass with precision jointing offering reliable support for table leaves and keyboard trays on computer desks. These rounded-end hinges are specifically designed to support leaves on butler tray tables in both the open flat (180 degree) and upright (90 degree) positions and in recent years for keyboard trays on computer desks. Butler style coffee tables have four small half-round leaves, one on each side of table top. A total of 4 pairs of hinges is necessary to redo an entire table. Each leaf requires two hinges equaling one pair. Made for years of service, these butler tray hinges are made from substantial brass extrusions.

These hinges hold leaf in upright 90 degree position and snap open to support leaf in flat 180 degree position. A more recent use for this hinge is for keyboard trays on computer desks. Hinge allows drawer front to open flat for keyboard when in use and fold upright when not in use.

  • Spring loaded locking mechanism supports leaf at 90 degrees
  • Hinge opens flat to 180 degrees
  • Hinge leaf with lock tab should be installed on pivoting leaf of table or desk.

    Using Brass Wood Screws

Care is required when installing brass screws. While these screws are the best match for most antique hardware however they are not as strong as steel screws. The screw is easily damaged if the hole is not properly prepared.

The best practice is to first drill a pilot hole. Use a drill bit slightly smaller than the overall width of the screw, including threads, to drill the hole. Then use a steel screw, the same size as brass screw, to “cut threads” in pilot hole, by screwing steel screw into and then out of hole.
