Offset Brass H Hinges

Offset Brass H-Hinges are a classic style with a 3/8" offset for lipped overlay doors. Popular during the 17th and early 18th centuries. H Hinges install by surface mounting to exterior of door and cabinet. Once installed, complete hinge is visible. Use on corner cupboards, high style country furniture and antique cabinets. Average furniture doors use one pair of hinges, tall doors may require 1-1/2 pairs. Use on lipped overlay doors. Hinges are substantially made with beveled edges and counter sunk holes.

Care is required when installing brass screws. While these screws are the best match for most antique hardware however they are not as strong as steel screws. The screw is easily damaged if the hole is not properly prepared.

The best practice is to first drill a pilot hole. Use a drill bit slightly smaller than the overall width of the screw, including threads, to drill the hole. Then use a steel screw, the same size as brass screw, to “cut threads” in pilot hole, by screwing steel screw into and then out of hole.
