Installing Grip Neck Stem Casters
Grip-neck stem casters use a steel sleeve to hold them in place. Sleeve inserts in furniture leg. Caster slides up into sleeve and snaps in place. This style of caster became popular with the industrial revolution around the mid 1800's.
Furniture leg has socket sleeve inserted in base of leg. Caster stem slips into socket sleeve and snaps in place. Caster is held in place by stem - socket sleeve connection.
Some vintage and antique furniture has a socket sleeve already in place. New casters may or may-not snap into old sleeves. Old sleeves can be removed and replaced with new sleeves.
New installation requires a 3/8" x 1 5/8" hole drilled in bottom of leg for socket sleeve.
