Oil lamp shades with a 7 inch fitter were frequently used from the Victorian era into the early 20th century. They were used on smaller oil lamps approximately 8" in height. These blown glass lamp shades magnified the amount of light, an oil lamp could produce. As a result they were often used to study by at night. Hence they were nickname Student Lamp Shades. Shape was mostly consistent. Top of shade was either flat or ruffled. Colors ranged from white, bright colors or dark green. Hand painted designs became fashionable. Oil lamp shades were elaborately painted with large floral designs. These replacement lamp shades are an excellent choice for antique and vintage lighting.
