Japanned Iron Door Locks were commonly used on 19th century furniture. These hard working locks are made strictly for doors. Easy to install, surface locks mount directly to interior door frame, with no mortising required.
These Japanned Door Locks are made of steel. Each has a historic black japanned-iron finish. This finish was developed in late 17th century Europe to imitate Asian lacquer work. Lock-bolt is steel. Strike is not included, as is not required. Made In England.
Choosing Surface Locks
For help measuring and selecting surface locks, we recommend reading: How to select, measure and install surface locks.
If replacing a lock:
- If you have old lock: measure distance between selvedge-edge (edge where bolt shoots through lock) to lock pin in center of keyhole. This measurement is known as the backset.
- If original lock is not available, determine backset by measuring: distance from center of keyhole to edge of cabinet door.
- The replacement lock's backset measurement must match location of keyhole in furniture.
